We are located in Beautiful West Point PEI
Naufrage
The first Shipwreck Point Lighthouse was constructed in 1913 and is located in Naufrage, Prince Edward Island. It overlooks Naufrage Harbour and the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the north side of Prince Edward Island. This coastal Lighthouse serves a large number of mariners. The Lighthouse can be seen from all points seaward.

The original Shipwreck Point Lighthouse is 11.6 m (38 ft) in height from base to vane. The Lighthouse consisted of a white square concrete building with a red lantern shaft in the center of the roof. In 1913, the site consisted of the lighthouse, an attached dwelling and oil shed. Later, more buildings were constructed. A barn was built in 1915 and also a small granary in which the light keeper housed his personal supplies and feed for his animals. There were also two sheds and a small well house. The lantern deck received a new pipe rail in 1931.

Francis McKinnon was lighthouse keeper at Shipwreck Point in 1915. Peter McKinnon became light keeper in 1932. In 1939, Daniel O'Henley took over as light keeper until he retired on June 6th, 1955. Hugh Boniface MacDonald took over as light keeper and held the position until 1966 when the Lighthouse became automated.

During the winter months, many of the lighthouses were shut down due to ice and very little marine traffic. Like the Point Prim Lighthouse, the Shipwreck Point Lighthouse remained open during the winter months between 1942 and 1944 to aid in the night flying of British Commonwealth Air Training School.

The original lighthouse was replaced in 1967 by a concrete octagonal tower built by M.F.Schurman Limited. It is located a short distance east of the original lighthouse which is now a private residence.

The Shipwreck Point Lighthouse is located off The King's Byway, Route 16 at Naufrage Harbour. Watch for a sign pointing to Shipwreck Point at Naufrage Harbour. It is located on private property and the owner does not allow public access. The Shipwreck Lighthouse is easily viewed from the highway.
