We are located in Beautiful West Point PEI
St. Peter's Main
The FHBRO report states that this lighthouse was constructed in 1865. We feel that this is an error and refers to the range lights which another FHBRO states were constructed prior to Prince Edward Island joining Confederation in 1873. Another reason is that records state that West Point was the first of the square tapered towers and it was not built until 1875. However, the FHBRO report does say that this is one of the 16 locations hi Prince Edward Island which had lights when the province joined Confederation. A further part of the mystery is that in the Sessional Papers (No. 5),1876, Supplement to the Eighth Annual Report, Department of Marine and Fisheries, List of Lights, it states that it was in the harbour, it had a red beacon, and it could be seen for 6 miles. The height in feet of centre of lantern above high water mark was 20 feet and height in feet of building was 26 feet from base to vane. It said it was a coastal light and had a First Order lense. The building would seem very small for a First Order Lense and a viewing distance of six miles does not seem consistent with a First order Lense. If anyone can shed any light on this information, I would be happy to hear from them.

The lighthouse stands 10.4 m (34.1 ft) in height from base to vane. It overlooks the Gulf of St. Lawrence and St. Peter's Bay on the north shore of Prince Edward Island. This square, tapered, wooden tower is similar to the range lights built hi the 1870s and 1880s possibly due to alterations undertaken in 1888 when an addition of 10 feet was added to the tower. It has a broad base and steeply sloping sides. It was designed by the Colonial Government and its builder is unknown.

There is no record of a light keeper's dwelling.

The lighthouse seems to be on its original site, though it was apparently located on a breakwater. The nearby range lights were moved frequently, as often as two or three tunes a year.

The St. Peters Harbour Lighthouse is located on the east end of Bristol, Route 2, follow a paved road marked St. Peters Harbour for 1.9 km. The pavement ends and continues as a narrow road. The light is visible across the lagoon.
